A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has criticised the National Assembly over its handling of the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal.
Okonkwo accused lawmakers of failing to interrogate President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the alleged Director General of PFIPC, Adeniyi Adeyemi, describing the move as a “rape of justice.”
The former Nollywood actor made the statement in a post on his X account, where he faulted the conclusion of the investigation without hearing from the individuals linked to the matter.
“The purported conclusion of investigation of the criminality of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) without interrogating Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the DG of the agency, or Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff of the President, is a rape of justice and a caricature of the independence of the legislature,” he said.
Okonkwo argued that the principles of natural justice require that no person should be condemned without being given an opportunity to defend themselves.
He added that any report by the National Assembly that condemns Adeyemi or Gbajabiamila without hearing from them would be “a nullity and laughable.”
The ADC chieftain also described as “absurd” the explanation by the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, that Adeyemi could not appear before lawmakers because of a court order.
He questioned why Gbajabiamila, who was not reportedly in detention, was not invited to appear before the investigative panel.
“If Adeyemi is in detention, is Femi also in detention? Why did the National Assembly not question Femi, who is not in detention?” Okonkwo queried.
He further accused the c
urrent National Assembly of failing in its constitutional responsibilities and urged Nigerians to use their votes in the 2027 general elections to demand accountability.
