Fake agency scandal: Gbajabiamila threatens N10bn defamation suit against Adeyemi

Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has threatened to drag Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi to court over allegations linking him to bribery, murder and other criminal activities in connection with the controversial fake agency saga.

Gbajabiamila, through his lawyers, Pinheiro LP, demanded N10 billion in damages for alleged defamation contained in statements made by Adeyemi during a press conference.
The legal notice dated July 6, 2026, and signed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kemi Pinheiro, accused Adeyemi of making “false, malicious, reckless and entirely unfounded” claims designed to damage the reputation of the Chief of Staff.

The lawyers alleged that Adeyemi accused Gbajabiamila of demanding 48 per cent of the alleged take-off grant of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), receiving N400 million through a proxy, abusing his office, manipulating government processes, and engaging in corrupt and criminal activities.

According to the letter, the allegations portrayed Gbajabiamila as “corrupt, dishonest, criminally culpable, morally bankrupt, a murderer and unfit to occupy public office.”
The legal team demanded that Adeyemi, within 72 hours of receiving the letter, stop making further defamatory statements, remove the alleged offensive publications from all platforms under his control, and issue a full and unconditional apology.

The lawyers also requested that the apology be published with the same prominence as the original allegations in at least five national newspapers and on all platforms where the claims were circulated.
They further demanded a written undertaking from Adeyemi assuring that he would not make any further defamatory statements against Gbajabiamila.

The letter warned that failure to meet the demands would compel the legal team to commence criminal and civil proceedings against Adeyemi.
The proposed legal action includes a criminal complaint for alleged criminal defamation under the laws of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), alongside a civil suit seeking N10 billion in aggravated and exemplary damages, which the lawyers said would be donated to charities chosen by Gbajabiamila.

The legal team also stated that it would seek a court injunction preventing further defamatory publications and an order compelling Adeyemi to retract the allegations and apologise.
Adeyemi had, during a June 25 press conference, accused Gbajabiamila of demanding a share of funds allegedly linked to the PFIPC, receiving money through intermediaries, abusing his office and attempting to conceal wrongdoing.

The Presidency has previously dismissed the allegations, insisting that Gbajabiamila does not have the power to issue appointments or approve government agencies.
