Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi has challenged President Bola Tinubu to explain how his administration has spent the resources generated from fuel subsidy removal, government borrowing and increased tax revenues. In an open message titled “Good Day, Mr President: Nigerians Deserve Accountability,” Obi congratulated Tinubu on spending a night in Akwa Ibom, but urged him to visit more states across the country and engage directly with Nigerians.
He questioned what the government had done with the ₦15.8 trillion allegedly saved from fuel subsidy removal, more than $100 billion in borrowings and additional revenue generated through taxation and improved government earnings.Obi also demanded measurable results on poverty reduction, out-of-school children, primary healthcare, electricity supply and national security. He recalled Tinubu’s promise that Nigerians should not vote for him if he failed to fix electricity, arguing that citizens deserve clear answers on the progress made in these critical sectors.Obi said the country needed accountability, transparency and evidence that public resources were improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
