Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has received 163 victims rescued from a terrorist attack in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
The rescued victims were received by the governor in Ilorin alongside the Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi, Brigadier General Nicholas Rume; Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi; State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Michael Oganwu; Chairman of Kaiama LGA, Abubakar Abdullahi Danladi; and the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Umaru.
A statement by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mashood Abdulrafiu Agboola, revealed that 46 of the rescued victims are currently receiving medical attention at a health facility.
Speaking during the reception, Governor AbdulRazaq described the incident as painful and regrettable but expressed gratitude that all the abductees were rescued alive.
He commended the efforts of security agencies and the state government, noting that the successful rescue operation showed that the measures taken to address insecurity in the area were yielding results.
“This is one gathering filled with mixed feelings. It is regrettable that the incident happened at all, but we are grateful to God that our collective efforts have paid off. Everyone has been rescued alive,” the governor said.
AbdulRazaq assured the victims and residents of the state that his administration would continue to provide necessary support, including medical care and assistance to help the affected Woro community rebuild.
The governor also praised President Bola Tinubu for what he described as consistent support and commitment towards improving security in Kwara State.
He said the President’s interventions had contributed to the establishment of Operation Savannah Shield, the recruitment of 2,600 forest guards, and the creation of additional Nigerian Army battalions aimed at strengthening security across the state.
Earlier, the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area, Abubakar Abdullahi Danladi, disclosed that 13 victims were still missing before the latest development. He commended the governor’s efforts and investments in security.
The Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Umaru, also praised Governor AbdulRazaq for standing by the community throughout the crisis and expressed hope that similar attacks would not occur again with the deployment of new security formations.
