Governor Fubara Joins Shettima, Others for 81st UN General Assembly in New YorkRivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, is among the senior Nigerian officials accompanying Vice President Kashim Shettima to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States.President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mandated Vice President Shettima to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the high-level global gathering, where he is expected to represent the President and deliver Nigeria’s national statement.Governor Fubara is joining other senior government officials as part of the Nigerian delegation to the annual UN gathering, which brings together world leaders and representatives of member states to deliberate on issues of global importance.

The 81st session of the General Assembly opened on September 8, while the high-level General Debate is scheduled for September 22 to 28, 2026.The theme of this year’s UN General Assembly is “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.” Discussions during the high-level week will cover a broad range of global issues, including sustainable development, climate action, health, peace and security, and emerging challenges such as artificial intelligence.Governor Fubara’s participation places Rivers State within Nigeria’s official delegation to one of the world’s foremost multilateral platforms, alongside the Vice President and other senior government officials.
