Yoruba Group Urges Tinubu To Rescue Kwara And Borno Victims After Oriire Operation

Group Urges Tinubu to Rescue Kwara, Borno Kidnap Victims After Oriire Operation. A socio-cultural organisation, Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, has called on President Bola Tinubu and the nation’s security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of 176 children and women abducted from Woro in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, as well as 40 Mussa schoolchildren kidnapped in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State. In a statement issued on Friday and signed by its Convener, Olusola Badero, the group commended the Nigerian security agencies, local vigilantes and the Federal Government for successfully rescuing pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The organisation, however, stressed that the rescue of the Oriire victims should not mark the end of the government’s efforts, insisting that every Nigerian held in captivity deserves equal attention regardless of ethnicity, religion or location.According to the group, Nigerians would only be convinced that the Tinubu administration is making meaningful progress in tackling insecurity when all abducted victims across the country are rescued.

The statement noted that the continued captivity of the 176 children and women abducted from Woro in Kwara State and the 40 Mussa schoolchildren in Borno State remains a painful reminder of the country’s persistent security challenges. The group alleged that since the February attack in which more than 200 people were reportedly killed by Boko Haram in Kwara State and 176 women and children abducted, both the Kwara State Government and the Federal Government had not demonstrated sufficient concern over the victims’ plight. It also lamented that the Mussa schoolchildren had remained in the custody of terrorists for 57 days, describing the prolonged captivity as unacceptable.

While mourning the Mathematics teacher who lost his life during the Oriire abduction and the security personnel who died during the rescue operation, the organisation urged the Federal Government to adequately equip security agencies to confront terrorists and criminal groups.

The group maintained that every kidnapped Nigerian deserves equal protection under the law and called on the Federal Government to demonstrate the same urgency that secured the release of the Oriire victims by ensuring the safe return of all persons still being held captive across the country.
