Yiaga Africa Urges Peace Ahead of Osun Governorship ElectionBy Shina Abubakar, OsogboAs preparations intensify for the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election, civil society organisation Yiaga Africa has called on political parties, candidates and other stakeholders to prioritise peace and uphold democratic principles to ensure a credible, free and violence-free poll.
The organisation stressed the need for all actors in the electoral process to conduct their campaigns responsibly, avoid inflammatory rhetoric and adhere to the provisions of the Electoral Act.Yiaga Africa also urged security agencies and election management authorities to discharge their responsibilities professionally and impartially, while encouraging voters to participate peacefully in the electoral process.The group noted that a peaceful and transparent election would strengthen public confidence in democracy and contribute to the stability and development of Osun State.
