Umahi’s Aide Fires Back: “Bring Evidence or Stop Accusing My Boss” Over Mary Habila’s Death

Francis Nwaze, media aide to the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has challenged those accusing his principal over the death of 26-year-old physiotherapist Mary Habila to provide evidence backing their claims.

The statement comes amid growing controversy surrounding Habila’s death at the minister’s residence in Uburu, Ebonyi State, with Nigerians and rights groups demanding an independent investigation into the circumstances behind the incident.

Several stakeholders have called for a transparent probe, while Habila’s planned burial was reportedly suspended following interventions from activists and concerned individuals pending the outcome of an autopsy.
Reacting through a post on his official Facebook page on Wednesday night, Nwaze warned against what he described as the spread of unverified allegations against Umahi.

He argued that some accusations against the minister were politically motivated and insisted that anyone making claims must be ready to substantiate them with facts.
“He who alleges must prove. Before making claims simply because you have a phone and can type, ensure you have credible evidence to support them,” Nwaze stated.

The aide added that political affiliation or external backing should not shield anyone from the responsibility of presenting truthful and verifiable information.
The controversy over Habila’s death continues to generate public attention as calls intensify for a full investigation to determine what actually happened.
