Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have foiled an attempted infiltration by suspected terrorists at a military base and evacuated 21 female students to safety following intelligence of a planned attack in Borno State.
The military disclosed this in its latest operational report released on Monday and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to the report, troops of the 3 Battalion at the Forward Operating Base in Logomani detected suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) attempting to surround their position through closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance.
The troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to retreat before they could launch the planned attack on the base.
The report also revealed that troops of Sector 3 responded to intelligence about seven suspected ISWAP/JAS members carrying improvised explosive devices (IEDs) around the Water Board Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Monguno.
As a precautionary measure, 21 female students residing in a nearby hostel were evacuated to Kinnasara Barracks.
Three of the students reportedly suffered seizures during the evacuation but were stabilised at a hospital, while security was strengthened around the area.
In another operation, troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion, in collaboration with local hunters, engaged suspected terrorists at Surajo village in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The insurgents reportedly fled the scene, abandoning three bicycles and two coolers.
The military further disclosed that troops of the 247 Reconnaissance Battalion, working with local hunters, arrested a suspected cross-border kidnapper at Gaya in Mubi South Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The suspect allegedly confessed to being part of a kidnapping syndicate operating from Solere Forest in Cameroon and crossing into Nigeria to carry out abductions.
Meanwhile, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA also repelled suspected terrorists along the Wasagu–Ayu Road in Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, forcing the attackers to flee and abandon their equipment.
