Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 68 Battalion under Sector 3 of Operation HADIN KAI have destroyed a Boko Haram/ISWAP hideout and recovered weapons during a clearance operation in Borno State.
The operation was carried out in the Mallam Fatori axis of Abadam Local Government Area, where the troops recovered three AK-47 rifles, ammunition and other items belonging to the insurgents.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development in a post on X on Friday, stating that the operation took place around 5:00 am on August 7, 2026.
According to him, the raid followed a failed terrorist attack on the battalion’s defensive location on July 29, 2026. He said troops traced the withdrawal route used by the insurgents after the attack, leading them to a concealed hideout at Kaniram East.
Makama explained that the troops approached the camp stealthily before launching a coordinated assault, resulting in the death of one terrorist, while two others escaped with gunshot injuries.
Items recovered during the operation included three AK-47 rifles, three magazines, 39 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, a Niger SIM card, an MP3 player and a 100 CFA recharge card.
He added that troops destroyed and set the insurgents’ camp ablaze after the operation to prevent further use of the location.
“The recovered communication devices and other materials are expected to provide valuable intelligence for ongoing operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks operating around the Lake Chad region,” Makama stated.
The operation is part of sustained military efforts under Operation HADIN KAI to track insurgents, destroy their hideouts and prevent terrorist groups from regrouping in the North-East.
