Troops Bombard Bandit Camps in Zamfara, Kill Scores of Fighters

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have launched a major air and ground offensive against the camps of notorious bandit leaders in Zamfara State.

The operation reportedly targeted the hideouts of bandit kingpins, including Najaja, Dogo Gide, Nasanda and Buba Oris, in Anka and Bukkuyum Local Government Areas of the state.

Security analyst Bakatsine disclosed the development in a post shared on X on Monday, stating that the offensive followed intelligence reports that hundreds of armed fighters had gathered around the Bayarzaki riverline.
According to him, the military commenced the operation with precision airstrikes on identified locations before ground troops moved in to lay an ambush along the Gummi–Anka road to intercept fleeing fighters.

He said the troops pursued the fleeing bandits to the Kombo High Ground, where a fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the death of several terrorists.

“Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have reportedly killed scores of terrorists during a coordinated air and ground offensive targeting the camps of notorious bandit leaders Najaja, Dogo Gide, Nasanda and Buba Oris in Anka and Bukkuyum LGAs of Zamfara State,” Bakatsine stated.
He added that one soldier sustained injuries during the operation, while troops recovered ammunition during subsequent clearance operations in the area.

Bakatsine described the offensive as a major setback for armed groups operating in Zamfara, noting that it demonstrated the military’s continued efforts to dismantle criminal networks and deny them safe havens.

He commended the troops for their resilience and professionalism in the fight against insecurity, while wishing the injured soldier a quick recovery.
