Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval to Repeal, Reenact Criminal Justice Act .President Bola Tinubu has transmitted a legislative proposal to the Senate seeking to overhaul Nigeria’s criminal justice system through the repeal and reenactment of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).
The proposal seeks to repeal the existing Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, and replace it with the proposed Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2026, as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen the country’s criminal justice framework.
According to the legislative proposal, the new bill is intended to address emerging challenges within the justice sector and improve the administration of criminal justice across the country.If passed by the National Assembly and assented to by the President, the proposed law will replace the 2015 Act, providing a new legal framework aimed at enhancing efficiency, accountability and the effective dispensary.
