President Bola Tinubu has ordered a full and transparent investigation into the deaths of miners who reportedly died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Minna, Niger State.
The miners were detained following enforcement operations against illegal mining around the Lt. Gen. Mohammed Inuwa Wushishi Estate.
Tinubu said “the life of every Nigerian matters”, stressing that no citizen should die in government custody due to negligence, abuse or mistreatment.
The President directed that any official found responsible through misconduct, abuse of power or failure of duty should be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fighting illegal mining while insisting that law-enforcement agencies must respect the rights and dignity of detainees.
