Terrorists Demand Additional N300m After N40m Ransom Payment for Abducted NSIEC Commissioner

Terrorists have reportedly demanded an additional N300 million ransom from the family of the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) Permanent Commissioner, Niger State Independent Electoral Commission, Ahmed Mohammed, nine months after his abduction.

This comes after the family allegedly paid about N40 million to secure his release, yet the victim remains in captivity.
Abduction details
Mohammed was kidnapped on September 29, 2025, along the Mokwa–Ibbi Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State while travelling to Minna on official duty ahead of the November 1, 2025 local government elections.
The incident occurred shortly before he was expected to participate in key electoral preparations.

Fresh ransom demand
According to a family source who spoke anonymously, the abductors recently re-established contact and insisted on a fresh payment of N300 million before the official could be released.

“They call almost every day. It was only yesterday (Tuesday) that they did not call. They requested for additional N300 million. We are appealing to the Niger State Government to come to our aid and secure his release,” the source said.

The family added that it could no longer meet the new demand, despite earlier payments made in efforts to secure his freedom.
Appeal for government intervention
The family is now calling on the Niger State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure his release, stressing that he was abducted while on official government assignment.

The report highlights growing concerns over persistent kidnapping cases across parts of northern Nigeria, particularly involving public officials and travelers on rural highways.
