Stakeholders Decry Overlapping Maritime Regulation in NigeriaStakeholders in Nigeria’s maritime sector have raised concerns over what they describe as excessive and overlapping regulatory frameworks, warning that the situation is hampering business operations and reducing the industry’s competitiveness.
According to industry operators, the activities of multiple regulatory agencies with similar mandates have resulted in duplicated charges, bureaucratic delays, and increased operational costs for businesses operating within the nation’s ports and maritime sector. The stakeholders urged the Federal Government to streamline regulatory functions, eliminate duplication of responsibilities, and implement reforms that would create a more efficient and business-friendly operating environment. They noted that addressing the issue of overregulation would improve the ease of doing business, attract more investments, and enhance the competitiveness of Nigeria’s maritime industry in the global shipping market.
