2027: Fubara Playing Active Role in Rainbow Coalition – WikeThe Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains an active member of the Rainbow Coalition and is contributing to efforts to secure President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.Wike made this known during a media chat in Abuja on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, dismissing suggestions that Fubara had been sidelined in the political arrangements ahead of the 2027 general elections. The former Rivers State governor described Fubara as a quiet person, insisting that his public disposition should not be interpreted as a sign of political exclusion or dissatisfaction.“Fubara has not been pushed aside. If you know him, he’s been a very quiet person,” Wike said.He added that Fubara was fully involved in the coalition’s activities and was playing his part in mobilising support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.Wike also disclosed that Fubara recently hosted a strategic meeting at his residence, attended by key political stakeholders, describing the gathering as evidence of the governor’s continued participation in the coalition.Speaking in his capacity as the campaign coordinator for Rivers State, Wike said the campaign committee lists had been submitted, with Fubara expected to serve as one of the key leaders. The minister explained that the Rainbow Coalition was formed to unite political groups across party lines, including members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and supporters from other parties, around a common political objective.
According to Wike, the arrangement does not require all participating candidates to belong to the same political party, as political considerations in different areas would determine the sharing of positions and electoral tickets. He maintained that the coalition’s primary objective was to rally support for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 while strengthening political cooperation in Rivers State. The comments come amid previous political disagreements between Wike and Fubara, whose relationship has been a major issue in Rivers State politics.
