Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has urged communities in Cross River State and other states along the Trans-Saharan Highway corridor to appreciate President Bola Tinubu for what he described as massive infrastructure interventions across the country.Umahi made the call while inspecting the ongoing construction of the Federal Government’s Trans-Saharan Highway, a major road project cutting across Cross River, Ebonyi, Benue, Enugu, Kogi and other states.According to the Minister, the project would improve the movement of agricultural produce, people, vehicles and machinery across communities that have suffered from poor road connectivity.
He described President Tinubu as a “miracle” to communities benefiting from the Federal Government’s infrastructure projects, arguing that the administration had taken steps to address some of the country’s long-standing infrastructure challenges.“I want the public to appreciate what the President is doing,” Umahi said, appealing specifically to communities in Cross River, Benue, Enugu, Ebonyi and other parts of the country to acknowledge the Federal Government’s intervention. The Minister also urged Nigerians to support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, saying the ongoing projects were evidence of the President’s commitment to infrastructure development.Umahi said the Federal Government would continue to execute projects according to available resources, adding that the ongoing roads and related infrastructure were expected to be completed by 2031 if the administration secures a second term. For Cross River communities, the development comes amid longstanding concerns over poor road connectivity and the need for improved access to rural communities and agricultural areas. The Minister’s appeal, however, is likely to generate political reactions in the state as the country moves closer to the 2027 general elections, particularly over whether infrastructure projects should translate into political support for the ruling All Progressives Congress. The Federal Government says the Trans-Saharan Highway is expected to improve connectivity, stimulate economic activity and create better opportunities for communities along the corridor.
