University of Medical Laboratory Science in JosThe Senate has passed a bill seeking the establishment of the Federal University of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology in Jos, Plateau State, in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system and expanding medical education.The bill, which originated in the House of Representatives, secured1w Whole, presided over by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.
Lawmakers said the proposed institution would enhance the training of medical laboratory professionals, improve the country’s diagnostic capacity and contribute to the delivery of quality healthcare services.The university is also expected to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on medical treatment abroad by producing highly skilled personnel and supporting research and innovation in medical laboratory science.The passage of the bill marks another legislative effort to strengthen the nation’s health sector through specialised tertiary education. The proposed university will become operational upon presidential assent to the bill.62
