The House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the alleged operation of the disputed Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) has declared the appointment letter presented by Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claimed to be the council’s Director-General, as fake.
Chairman of the committee, Yusuf Gagdi, made the disclosure on Wednesday during the continuation of the investigation in Abuja.
Gagdi said the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who appeared before the committee for the second time, confirmed that the documents submitted by Adeyemi were not genuine.
“It was established that the so-called letter of appointment was fake, confirmed by different agencies, and the Act presented to the Head of Service was equally fake, forged by the DG; it was established,” Gagdi stated.
The Head of Service appeared before the committee following a summons issued by the lawmakers for her final submission on the matter.
Representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Olufemi Akinola and Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi, were also present at the hearing on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police.
However, Adeyemi had yet to appear before the committee as of the time of filing the report.
The committee had earlier described the establishment and activities of the purported PFIPC as a serious breach and directed the Inspector-General of Police to produce Adeyemi before the lawmakers within 48 hours.
