Oborevwori Approves ₦2m Grant, Monthly Stipends for Delta Returnees from South AfricaGovernor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved a comprehensive welfare package for Deltans who recently returned from South Africa following xenophobic attacks in the country.
The package includes a ₦2 million grant for each affected family as part of efforts to support the returnees’ reintegration into society.The governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Johnson Erijo, said individual returnees would also receive a monthly welfare stipend of ₦200,000.In addition, every affected family is to receive ₦300,000 monthly beginning from August 2026 until the expiration of Governor Oborevwori’s first tenure on May 29, 2027.According to the state government, the intervention is aimed at cushioning the economic hardship faced by the returnees and assisting them to rebuild their lives after their displacement from South Africa due to the attacks.The welfare initiative is expected to provide financial relief and promote the smooth reintegration of the affected Deltans into their communities
