NYSC debunks viral notice on special redeployment window

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed a viral notice claiming that a special redeployment window had been opened for corps members.
The scheme described the notice as fake, warning corps members, parents and members of the public against falling victim to fraudsters.
The fraudulent message, titled “URGENT NOTICE: NYSC REDEPLOYMENT”, was addressed to “Parents/Guardians” and claimed that the redeployment window was open due to concerns surrounding national security, health and the state of the nation.

It urged corps members with “genuine grounds” to apply for redeployment to ensure their safety, proper placement and timely completion of service.
The fake notice also provided two phone numbers and requested that applicants contact them immediately, claiming that valid documents would be required and that applications would follow NYSC guidelines.
Reacting to the development, the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, through its verified X handle, @officialnyscng, labelled the notice as “FAKE NEWS” and warned the public not to rely on the information.

The scheme did not reveal the identity of those behind the fake communication at the time of the report.
NYSC noted that it was not the first time fraudsters had attempted to exploit the redeployment process to defraud corps members and their families.
The scheme, under the leadership of Director-General Olakunle Nafiu, has repeatedly advised corps members that deployment and redeployment processes are handled only through its official portal and designated offices.
The NYSC stressed that it does not authorise agents or individuals to process redeployment requests through phone calls or unofficial channels.
Corps members and the general public were urged to verify all NYSC-related information through the scheme’s official website and social media platforms before taking any action or making payments.
