The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Wukari Branch in Taraba State, has denied allegations that it is mobilising teachers to participate in Permanent Voter Card (PVC) registration, describing the claim as false and misleading.
The denial followed an online publication alleging that the union was encouraging teachers to register for PVCs ahead of political activities.
In a statement issued by the branch chairman, Bawa Baaku, on Saturday, the NUT said the report was unfounded and did not reflect the union’s position or activities.
The union stressed that it is a professional trade organisation focused on teachers’ welfare and education development, not a political body.
“The primary mandate of the NUT is to protect the welfare of teachers, promote their professional development, safeguard their legitimate interests, and support the advancement of quality education,” the statement read.
The Wukari branch urged its members, the public, and stakeholders to disregard the publication, describing it as misinformation intended to misrepresent the union’s role.
The union further clarified that all official statements and communications from the branch are issued only through recognised and authorised channels.
Reaffirming its commitment to the teaching profession, the NUT pledged to remain focused on improving teachers’ welfare, raising educational standards, and promoting quality education in Wukari and beyond.
