NAFDAC begins nationwide enforcement of ban on sachet alcohol, sub-200ml PET bottlesThe National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has commenced nationwide enforcement of the Federal Government’s ban on alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles below 200 millilitres.The enforcement marks the full implementation of the government’s directive prohibiting the production, distribution and sale of the affected alcoholic products across the country.NAFDAC warned that individuals and businesses found violating the ban would face prosecution in accordance with existing laws and regulatory provisions.
The agency said the nationwide exercise is aimed at ensuring compliance with the policy, which seeks to reduce the harmful effects of excessive alcohol consumption, particularly among young people, and promote public health.NAFDAC urged manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers and retailers to comply fully with the directive by discontinuing the production and sale of alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below the approved 200ml threshold.The agency reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing food and drug regulations and warned that enforcement operations would continue nationwide to ensure strict compliance with the ban.
