Kaduna killings: US urges Nigeria to act against violence in Middle Belt
The United States has condemned the recent deadly attack on a village in Kaduna State, which reportedly left at least 30 people dead, including children, and called on the Nigerian government to intensify efforts to tackle violence in the Middle Belt region.
The US Bureau of African Affairs made the call in a statement shared on Saturday via its official X account, expressing sympathy to families of victims of the attack, which occurred in the early hours of July 27.
“The United States condemns the early morning July 27 attack on a village in Nigeria’s Kaduna State that reportedly killed at least 30 people, including children,” the statement read.
The bureau extended condolences to the relatives of those who lost their lives, saying: “We express our deepest condolences to the loved ones of the deceased.”
The United States further urged the Federal Government to address what it described as recurring violence against Christians in the Middle Belt and improve security in affected communities.
“We will continue to urge the Government of Nigeria to address rampant violence against Christians in the Middle Belt,” the statement added.
The latest call comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity and attacks on communities in parts of Nigeria, particularly in the Middle Belt, where armed groups and criminal elements have carried out several deadly assaults.
