The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has described its engagement with the Israeli Knesset in Jerusalem as a major milestone in its international diplomatic campaign.
A delegation of the pro-Biafra group was received at the Israeli parliament by the Deputy Speaker of the Knesset, Nissim Vaturi, and Deputy Chairman of the Knesset and member of the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee, Mrs Limor Son Har-Melech.
The delegation was led by the head of IPOB’s Directorate of State (DOS), Mazi Chris Nwaogu.
In a statement issued by IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, the group expressed appreciation to the Israeli lawmakers for what it described as a “warm, brotherly, and productive” reception.
IPOB said the meeting represented a significant step in its peaceful international advocacy efforts, adding that discussions centred on issues of justice, liberty, human dignity, and self-determination.
The group said its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has long advocated for strategic partnerships with Israel and the United States, claiming that such alliances would support its vision for Biafra.
According to IPOB, the Biafran and Jewish peoples share historical experiences involving persecution, discrimination, displacement, and survival struggles.
The group further argued that the creation of Israel in 1948 serves as an inspiration for its quest for an independent Biafra.
IPOB maintained that the restoration of Biafra as a sovereign state remains its preferred solution, claiming it would provide security and protection for vulnerable communities in the region.
The organisation also revealed that similar diplomatic engagements are ongoing in the United States and other countries, insisting that its campaign remains focused on non-violent advocacy and international dialogue.
“IPOB remains committed to lawful diplomacy, the rule of law, and constructive international engagement,” the statement added.
The development comes amid continued debate in Nigeria over IPOB’s self-determination campaign and its call for the creation of an independent Biafran state.
