The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has submitted an interim report to President Bola Tinubu following its investigation into the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
The ICPC Chairman, Musa Adamu Aliyu, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents after presenting the report to the President.
According to Aliyu, the investigation revealed that Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who was linked to the council, was never appointed by the Federal Government or any government authority.
He said, “Adeyemi Matthew was never appointed by the federal government or any authority of government.”
The ICPC chairman also stated that the investigation found that the PFIPC was not established by any law, executive order, or any recognised government instrument.
He added that documents allegedly used to support the existence of the council, including an appointment letter presented by Adeyemi Matthew, were forged.
“The appointment letter presented by Adeyemi Matthew was completely forged alongside similar documents used to perpetuate the illegal activities of the fake council,” Aliyu said.
President Tinubu had on July 7 directed the ICPC to investigate the existence and activities of the PFIPC after concerns were raised over the council’s legitimacy.
The President had also mandated the commission to submit its findings within 30 days as part of efforts to uncover the truth behind the controversial body.
