The Kebbi State Hisbah Board has released two women arrested for alleged indecent dressing in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi after counselling them on modesty and acceptable community conduct.
The Board’s Director, Surajo Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi.
According to him, the board received complaints from residents on Friday, May 8, alleging that some women in the area were dressing inappropriately while residing in a house within the community.
Residents reportedly claimed that the women occasionally appeared outside the house in revealing outfits, a situation that sparked concern among locals.
Following the complaints, Hisbah operatives were deployed to investigate the allegations, leading to the arrest of two women suspected to be involved.
During interrogation, the women admitted to the act but explained that their choice of clothing was influenced by the intense heat, stressing that they had no harmful intention.
Usman said the women expressed remorse and promised not to repeat the behaviour.
He added that the suspects were counselled on the need to uphold modesty, morality, and respect for religious and community values, including maintaining decent dressing standards.
The women were later released after the counselling session and advised to conduct themselves appropriately going forward.
The Hisbah director also urged residents to promote moral values and support authorities in maintaining peace, discipline, and social order within the community.
