The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged the Federal Government to introduce a reasonable wage award for workers following the latest increase in petrol prices to about ₦1,430 per litre.
NLC President Joe Ajaero said the hike would worsen transportation costs and push up the prices of food, rent, school fees and other essentials.
He also called on the government to sell crude oil to local refineries in naira and expand national fuel storage capacity to create a buffer against future energy crises.
Ajaero warned that without urgent measures, rising fuel costs could further deepen hardship and poverty across the country.
