EFCC Uncovers Chinese Illegal Oil Refinery In Ogun State

EFCC Uncovers Chinese-Operated Illegal Oil Refinery in Ogun, Discovers Underground Diesel TanksThe Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has uncovered a suspected illegal oil refinery operated by Chinese nationals in the Ogere area of Ogun State, where sludge oil was allegedly processed into diesel for sale in the Nigerian market. The operation was carried out on Saturday, October 31, 2026, by operatives of the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 following intelligence and surveillance on suspected illegal sludge-oil refining activities.

Although the facility was deserted when operatives arrived, they discovered waste products from the refining process and underground tanks believed to have been used for heating and processing the oil. Two of the tanks contained substances suspected to be Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel.Preliminary investigations indicated that the operators transported black sludge from Warri, Delta State, and Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to Ogere, where it was subjected to intense heat and passed through chambers and filters to produce lighter petroleum products.Security personnel at the facility reportedly told investigators that the Chinese operators never disclosed their identities or the name of the company behind the operation. The EFCC has taken over the premises as investigations continue to identify the operators, establish ownership of the facility and determine the full extent of the suspected illegal factory in Ogun State.updates.#DailyTimesNigeria #EFCC #IllegalRefinery #OgunState #NigeriaNews
