2027: Don’t Set Nigeria on Fire, NILDS Boss Warns Political Actors. The Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, has urged political actors to avoid actions capable of destabilising Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.Sulaiman warned politicians against inflammatory rhetoric, political violence and other activities that could threaten the country’s peace and democratic stability.He called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to place national interest above personal and partisan ambitions, stressing the need for responsible political engagement.

The NILDS boss also urged stakeholders to respect democratic institutions and allow Nigerians to freely exercise their constitutional right to choose their leaders.He appealed to political actors to resolve disagreements through dialogue and lawful means, warning that Nigeria could not afford actions that would plunge the country into crisis.The warning comes amid increasing political activities and realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with stakeholders calling for a peaceful and credible electoral process.
