Dickson Urges Calm, Insists NDC Remains Valid Despite Court Ruling Writing The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has urged the party’s candidates and supporters to remain calm following a court ruling setting aside an order to register the party, insisting that the NDC has not been deregistered and remains eligible to participate in the 2027 general elections.Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Dickson said the party was taking the appropriate legal steps to address the court’s decision and expressed confidence that the matter would be resolved. He thanked Nigerians for what he described as an outpouring of support, saying thousands of people had visited the party’s website since Friday to register and identify with its vision.”
I want to thank all Nigerians for their support, solidarity, and prayers. Since Friday, thousands of Nigerians have been flocking to our website to register. They now know more about our party, they sympathise with our party and our candidates, and they are buying into our vision,” he said.Dickson maintained that the NDC remains a recognised political party, stressing that its candidates for all elective offices were validly nominated through primaries conducted nationwide under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).According to him, the party successfully conducted primaries for the State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, governorship and presidential elections, with all nominations completed within the timetable prescribed by INEC.He explained that, under Nigerian law, the validity of candidates’ nominations is determined by the conduct of party primaries, while the submission of candidates’ names to INEC is merely an administrative process.”The NDC is still a party.
The court itself did not deregister it, and no step has been taken to that effect,” Dickson said.He assured party members and candidates that their nominations remain valid and urged them to remain focused as the party continues to challenge the court ruling through the legal process.
