Dangote Crude Must Be Available, Commercially Viable.

Dangote Refinery: Domestic Crude Must Be Available, Commercially Viable. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has said domestic crude oil must be consistently available and commercially viable for Nigerian refineries to operate sustainably.

The clarification followed reports based on data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) suggesting that the refinery rejected about 15.5 million barrels of crude oil offered by local producers in the second quarter of 2026.The refinery explained that its position was not a rejection of Nigerian crude, but a reflection of the need for crude supplies to meet commercial and operational requirements. The company stressed that local crude must be supplied under terms that are commercially viable, noting that access to adequate feedstock is essential to maintaining refinery operations and ensuring a stable supply of petroleum products.

The development comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and industry stakeholders to strengthen domestic refining capacity and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products. The Dangote refinery has repeatedly maintained that adequate and reliable crude supply is critical to maximising its capacity and supporting Nigeria’s energy security.
