A 71-year-old cleric, Mr. Omotayo Ezekiel Fajana, has been found dead in a hotel in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, just hours before he was scheduled to be installed as the Head Prayer Warrior Father of a Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Church.
According to reports, Fajana travelled to Akungba-Akoko to attend a church programme at Ogo Orimolade C&S Church, Okerigbo, where his installation ceremony was expected to take place.
The event, however, ended in tragedy after the elderly cleric was reportedly discovered lifeless in the hotel where he had lodged.
His sudden death has generated concern among family members, church associates, and residents, with questions emerging over the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Sources disclosed that controversy arose after the deceased’s body was allegedly moved from the hotel to a mortuary in nearby Ikare-Akoko before a formal medical certification of death was obtained.
The development reportedly sparked concerns over whether the proper procedures were followed after the cleric was found dead.
Following complaints from family members, law enforcement authorities were said to have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident.
Police detectives are currently working to establish the exact cause of death and reconstruct the events leading to the tragedy. Investigators are also seeking to identify individuals who were with the deceased before he was found lifeless.
Reports indicate that three persons have been taken into custody and are assisting the police with ongoing investigations.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Jimoh Abayomi, told Daily Trust that the case remains under active investigation.
According to him, detectives are examining all aspects of the incident to determine whether foul play was involved in the cleric’s death.
