Atiku, Peter Obi Welcome FG’s Suspension of WAEC, NECO Registration Fee HikeFormer Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, and the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, have welcomed the Federal Government’s decision to suspend the proposed increase in registration fees for the 2027 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

The Federal Government recently suspended the planned fee adjustment following public criticism and concerns raised by education stakeholders.Reacting to the development, Atiku described the decision as a welcome relief for Nigerian families, insisting that the country should not be used as “a laboratory for policy experiments.”Peter Obi also applauded the government’s decision, describing the suspension of the proposed fee hike as “a victory for the people” and a demonstration that constructive public engagement can influence government policies.Both opposition leaders urged the Federal Government to continue implementing education policies that promote affordability and expand access to quality education, especially for students from low-income households.The suspension of the proposed increase has been widely welcomed by stakeholders in the education sector, who had expressed concerns over the potential financial burden on parents and students preparing for the 2027 examinations.
