The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has said Nigerians should not expect President Bola Tinubu to put on military uniform in order to address the country’s security challenges.
Speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organized by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, Adeboye argued that leadership at the top is primarily about issuing directives rather than physically engaging in combat.
According to him, criticisms that the president is not doing enough about insecurity are misplaced.
“I want to be clear: I don’t support the people who are saying the president isn’t doing enough,” he said.
“When the leader at the top gives orders to his team, he has fulfilled his part. You wouldn’t expect him to go and wear khaki and fight.”
Adeboye added that leadership in other countries follows similar patterns, citing former U.S. President Donald Trump in his remarks.
“When my friend Donald Trump tells people to go bomb anywhere, he doesn’t stay out of the White House. He says, ‘I hereby command, bomb Iran,’ and then he goes to his bedroom and sleeps,” he said.
He further stated that despite worsening insecurity in some areas, his position remains unchanged, noting that conditions have “gotten much, much worse” than before recent incidents referenced in his speech.
The comments come amid ongoing public debate over Nigeria’s security situation and expectations from the Tinubu administration.
Bola Tinubu has continued to face scrutiny over rising insecurity in parts of the country, with critics and supporters divided on the effectiveness of federal responses.
