A group of senior commanders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has reportedly surrendered to Nigerian troops in Borno State following sustained military operations targeting the terrorist group.According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the commanders abandoned their strongholds after weeks of coordinated military offensives, precision air strikes, and intelligence-led operations that significantly weakened the group’s operational capacity.
The report stated that the sustained pressure mounted by security forces forced the insurgent leaders to lay down their arms, marking another development in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign in Nigeria’s North-East.The surrender is believed to be part of the military’s intensified efforts to dismantle terrorist enclaves and disrupt the operational networks of ISWAP in Borno and surrounding areas. However, the Nigerian military had yet to officially confirm the reported surrender as of the time of filing this report.
