A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Eze Chikamnayo, has accused President Bola Tinubu of carrying out what he described as a deliberate onslaught against opposition parties in Nigeria.
Chikamnayo made the allegation during an interview on Arise Television on Monday, where he reacted to recent legal developments involving the party’s registration status.
He condemned a recent judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State, which nullified the registration of the NDC as a political party. According to him, the ruling represents a “notorious and very dangerous” precedent for Nigeria’s democracy.
“There is a deliberate onslaught against opposition parties by the President,” he said. “I want to use this opportunity to plead with His Excellency President Tinubu to get his hands off the opposition parties. All it takes for peaceful change is for him to allow democracy to happen. If he makes peaceful change impossible, a violent change will be inevitable.”
The controversy follows a legal twist in which the court recently set aside its earlier judgment that had directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party.
The case continues to generate political tension amid broader debates over opposition participation and electoral fairness in Nigeria.
