The national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has alleged that some individuals are deliberately seeking excuses to weaken and destabilise opposition political parties in the country.
Dickson made the remarks during an interview on Sunday Politics, a programme on Channels Television.
He spoke in reaction to a judgment of the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, which directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party.
According to him, recent developments around opposition parties suggest a coordinated attempt to create confusion and weaken their structures.
“What people are trying to do is to look for flimsy excuses to truncate the political opposition, destabilise, weaken and scatter the political opposition, which is why it is worrisome,” he said.
Dickson referenced similar controversies involving other opposition parties, claiming there were efforts to undermine internal party processes and leadership consolidation.
He added that the NDC remains focused on building what he described as a growing platform with credible and dynamic leaders.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress continues to await further administrative steps following the court ruling directing INEC to register the party.
