Atiku Allegations Baseless – INEC

INEC Denies Granting ADC Rival Faction Access to Candidate Nomination PortalThe Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed allegations by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that it granted the rival faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Nafiu Gombe, access codes to upload candidates’ names to its nomination portal.

A senior official of the commission, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told journalists that the allegation was false and did not reflect the commission’s position regarding the leadership of the party. The official stated that INEC recognises only the National Executive Committee of the ADC led by former Senate President David Mark and conducts its dealings with the party through the recognised leadership.

The clarification comes amid ongoing disputes within the opposition party over its leadership structure and the nomination of candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.INEC maintained that its actions remain guided by the law and its official records, stressing that only recognised party executives are authorised to engage with the commission on matters relating to candidate nominations and other electoral processes.
