Troops clear Zamfara highway of explosive threats

Troops of the 1 Brigade have cleared the Bagega–Anka major supply route in Zamfara State of explosive threats, restoring safe vehicular movement along the strategic highway following a detailed route scanning operation.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed this in a post on X, noting that the clearance operation was conducted at about 9:30 a.m. on July 2 by personnel of the brigade in collaboration with a Quick Response Force (QRF) and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

According to him, the operation involved thorough scanning of the Bagega–Anka Main Supply Route in Anka Local Government Area to detect and neutralise any improvised explosive devices (IEDs) or other hidden explosive hazards.

At the end of the exercise, the troops confirmed that the route was free of explosive threats and subsequently reopened it for public and vehicular movement.

Zagazola also revealed that during the operation, troops recovered a Nigeria Police Counter-Terrorism/Counter-Strike (NP CSK) vehicle that had earlier struck an improvised explosive device along the same axis.
He added that the operation was completed without any incident, and no casualties were recorded among the security personnel involved.

“The route clearance forms part of sustained counter-insurgency and counter-banditry efforts aimed at ensuring the safety of motorists, security personnel and residents travelling along strategic roads in Zamfara State,” he stated.
