[Just In]: Abuja To Face Power Outage As TCN Announces Maintenance

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a scheduled power outage in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as it carries out preventive maintenance at its Katampe 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja.

According to a statement issued by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the maintenance exercise will take place on Saturday, July 4, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The company explained that the maintenance is aimed at enabling its technical team to carry out preventive work on the 100MVA 132/33kV Power Transformer (TR1), its auxiliary equipment and associated switchgear at the Katampe Transmission Substation.

As a result of the exercise, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to receive bulk power from TCN for distribution to customers in several parts of the FCT during the maintenance period.

The affected areas include parts of Mpape, Maitama, Jahi, Life Camp, Kado Power to Fish Market, Idu-Karmo, and surrounding communities.

TCN stated that the planned maintenance is necessary to keep its transmission infrastructure in good working condition and ensure the continued reliability and optimal performance of its equipment.

The company also apologised for the inconvenience the temporary outage may cause residents and businesses in the affected locations.

“TCN regrets any inconvenience this planned outage may cause electricity customers in the affected areas and notes that equipment maintenance is essential to ensure their continued optimal performance,” the statement read.

The transmission company appealed to electricity consumers in the affected communities to bear with the temporary disruption, assuring them that normal power supply would be restored immediately after the maintenance exercise is completed.
