Odesola Defends Adeboye, Says Remarks On Insecurity Were Taken Out Of Context.

Odesola Defends Adeboye, Says Remarks on Insecurity Were Taken Out of Context. The Continental Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Continent 3, Pastor Johnson Odesola, has defended comments made by the church’s General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, insisting that they were misinterpreted and wrongly portrayed as a defence of President Bola Tinubu over the country’s security challenges.

In a statement titled, “Pastor Adeboye Deserves Fair Hearing, Not Unfair Criticism,” Odesola said many of those criticising the revered cleric relied on short video clips circulating on social media instead of listening to his complete remarks delivered at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala in Washington, D.C.According to Odesola, Adeboye never denied the worsening insecurity in Nigeria. Rather, he acknowledged that terrorism, banditry and kidnapping, once largely concentrated in the North, had spread to several parts of the South.

He ecplained that the General Overseer’s statement that Nigerians should not expect President Bola Tinubu to “wear khaki and go and fight” was simply an explanation of the constitutional responsibilities of the President as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.Odesola maintained that the comment was not intended to absolve the Federal Government of responsibility or defend the President against criticism but to emphasise that the President’s role is to provide leadership and direct security agencies in addressing the country’s security challenges.

He urged Nigerians to consider the full context of Pastor Adeboye’s speech before passing judgment, stressing that the cleric’s comments had been unfairly presented in public discourse. The clarification follows widespread reactions to Adeboye’s remarks on the state of insecurity in Nigeria, with some critics interpreting them as a defence of the Tinubu administration.
