NDC demands sack of Tinubu’s Chief of Staff over alleged PFIPC scandal

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the immediate suspension and investigation of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations linked to a controversial entity known as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the opposition party urged President Bola Tinubu to step aside the Chief of Staff to allow for what it described as a transparent and independent investigation.
Allegations surrounding PFIPC

The NDC alleged that the PFIPC, described as a “non-existent agency,” was used to siphon public funds with alleged facilitation involving the Chief of Staff. It further claimed that despite being denied by the Presidency, the agency reportedly operated financial accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria, including domiciliary, pound sterling, and Treasury Single Accounts.

The group questioned how such accounts could be opened for an agency that has been publicly disowned, calling for clarification from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and other relevant institutions.
Claims of budgetary approvals and staffing
The opposition party also alleged that the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation approved 314 staff positions for the disputed agency, raising concerns over possible administrative breaches within the federal bureaucracy.
It further accused unnamed officials of facilitating questionable budgetary allocations for the PFIPC in the 2026 fiscal year.

Financial and corruption allegations
According to claims cited in the statement, the Chief of Staff was accused of demanding a percentage share of the agency’s takeoff grant, while also allegedly receiving funds through proxies in connection with appointment processes.

The NDC described the allegations as evidence of “institutionalised corruption” and called for immediate accountability.
Security concerns raised

The party also referenced reports involving alleged threats to a whistleblower connected to the case, including claims of assassination attempts and the death of an intermediary in a fire incident in Abuja in 2025. It urged security agencies to investigate the incidents thoroughly.
NDC demands investigation

The opposition party called on President Tinubu to:
Suspend the Chief of Staff pending investigation
Set up an independent investigative panel
Probe PFIPC operations, budget allocations, and account openings
Investigate alleged threats and deaths linked to the matter
Place the whistleblower under protection
It also urged anti-graft agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, alongside the Nigeria Police Force, to commence a full investigation.

The NDC insisted that Nigerians deserve a transparent probe, warning against what it called attempts to dismiss the allegations through official denials.
