Peter Obi Meets Obasanjo Amid 2027 Political Realignments
The presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election, Peter Obi, has met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, amid ongoing political discussions ahead of the polls.
Pictures from the meeting were shared on X by Obi’s photographer, Esther Umoh, who confirmed that the former Anambra State governor visited the ex-president.
“Earlier today, the presidential candidate of the NDC, Peter Obi, met with former president Olusegun Obasanjo,” Umoh stated while sharing the images.
The meeting comes amid growing speculations over Obasanjo’s possible influence in the opposition’s political arrangements ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The development also follows comments by Akin Osuntokun, a former political adviser to Obasanjo, who alleged that the former president played a key role in facilitating an alliance between Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Osuntokun dismissed claims that Obasanjo was backing President Bola Tinubu, saying the former president was instead instrumental in efforts to unite opposition figures.
DAILY POST reports that Obi, alongside his running mate Rabiu Kwankwaso, recently exited the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition and joined the NDC, citing internal disagreements and ongoing court cases within the party.
