The presidential candidate of the Peter Obi under the Nigeria Democratic Congress has explained the motivation behind his bid for the presidency, stating that his ambition is driven by a desire to build a “productive and prosperous” nation anchored on unity and national transformation.

Obi made this known in a statement shared on Wednesday via his official X handle, where he outlined his broader vision for governance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, his administration would, in the coming weeks and months, unveil a comprehensive roadmap aimed at addressing abuse in government, improving living standards, and promoting unity, peace, and sustained national development across Nigeria.
He said his vision is grounded in principles of unity, inclusion, social justice, equity, and freedom for citizens to pursue lawful aspirations.

The statement, titled “My Vision for a Productive and Prosperous Nigeria,” emphasized that human capital development would be central to his proposed reforms, particularly in education and healthcare.
Obi stated that his government would prioritize efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children, while also strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to support industrialisation and job creation.
He proposed a model similar to Germany’s dual education system, involving partnerships between government, private sector operators, and social institutions to expand apprenticeship opportunities.

According to him, improving vocational training is essential to addressing unemployment and the shortage of skilled labour, which he said has forced many Nigerian entrepreneurs to establish businesses outside the country.

He further stressed the need to transition Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy to a production-based economy, anchored on agriculture, value addition, and industrial parks across the country’s geopolitical zones.

Obi also highlighted plans to introduce civic and character education aimed at strengthening trust, national values, and ethical leadership, describing these as key foundations for governance and economic growth.

He added that a special task force would be created at the beginning of his presidency to tackle the issue of out-of-school children and improve access to quality education nationwide.
His remarks form p

art of a broader campaign message as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
