The Presidency has accused the presidential candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, of strongly seeking to replace President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made the assertion while reacting to comments by Dangote Group President, Aliko Dangote, praising some of the economic policies introduced by the Tinubu administration.
Dangote had commended President Tinubu for removing the fuel subsidy, liberalising the foreign exchange market and creating an environment that enabled the Dangote Refinery to commence operations.
Speaking in a statement on Monday, Onanuga urged politicians calling for a reversal of the administration’s policies to take note of Dangote’s assessment.
He wrote on X: “Atiku and Peter Obi, who badly want President Tinubu’s job, should listen to the encomium Aliko Dangote has showered on Tinubu and his policies.”
Onanuga further argued that reversing the administration’s policies would undermine measures he said were contributing to Nigeria’s economic transformation.
He said, “It doesn’t make any sense for any politician to advocate a reversal of the policies that are making Nigeria great.”
The remarks come amid increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with opposition figures continuing to scrutinise and challenge the Tinubu administration’s economic policies.
