A public affairs analyst and civil society advocate, Victor Kalu, has warned the APC candidate for Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1, Toyin Zachaeuous, against dragging President Bola Tinubu into the corruption allegations being investigated by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Kalu made the call during a briefing in Abuja, urging Zachaeuous to allow the ICPC investigation to run its full course without political interference.
He also appealed to the anti-graft agency to continue its probe without pressure, saying Nigerians deserve to know the outcome of the allegations against the APC candidate.
Kalu questioned the alleged use of Tinubu’s name in defending Zachaeuous, arguing that associating the President with an ongoing corruption investigation could create a negative impression.
“Why use the name of Mr President to say he is Mr President’s candidate when he is not qualified in defence of the law?” he asked.
He added that several groups in the National Assembly, the Federal Capital Territory and Ekiti State had issued statements for and against the matter.
