TINUBU’S EXTENDED STAY ABROAD: SENATE REJECTS EMERGENCY SITTING, SAYS THERE IS NO REASON TO RECONVENEThe Senate has dismissed calls for an emergency sitting over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s continued stay outside Nigeria, despite demands by some federal lawmakers for the National Assembly to address concerns about the President’s absence.Senate spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, stated the position while speaking with LEADERSHIP in Abuja on Thursday.“There is no reason for such a call,” he said. Adaramodu, who represents Ekiti South Senatorial District, said the legislature would not allow political arguments surrounding Tinubu’s foreign trip to divert its attention from its responsibilities. His response followed a demand by serving federal lawmakers under the Save Democracy group for an urgent sitting. The lawmakers questioned whether the President had transmitted the written declaration required under Section 145 of the Constitution in connection with his vacation. They also called for action under Section 145(2), alleging that the relevant declaration had not been transmitted within 21 days. That allegation is the lawmakers’ position; the reports reviewed do not independently establish whether such a declaration was transmitted. Defending the Senate’s position, Adaramodu referred to Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s explanation that Tinubu remained in charge and could continue conducting government business while abroad.

According to the report, Adaramodu said the Senate would resume legislative activities on September 29. The disagreement centres on whether the President’s continued stay abroad requires urgent parliamentary intervention. While the lawmakers seeking a sitting have raised constitutional concerns, the Senate spokesperson maintains that an emergency recall is unnecessary.Do you agree with the Senate, or should lawmakers reconvene to clarify the situation and address Nigerians’ concerns?#PoliticsReligionAndCrime #Tinubu #NationalAssembly #NigerianSenate #YemiAdaramodu #NigerianPolitics #Accountability
