Vice presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has criticised governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming they no longer wield the level of power governors had in 1999.
Kwankwaso made the statement during an interview with Arise Television on Tuesday.
He said he does not envy the governors serving under President Bola Tinubu, arguing that many of them enter office believing they have defeated everyone and subsequently stop listening to advice.
“Governors are not in charge. Today’s governors are not as powerful as governors were in 1999,” Kwankwaso said.
He also alleged that some governors spend public funds as they please with relatives and associates, a situation he said could eventually create serious problems.
