Fresh concerns have emerged over the management of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT), with staff alleging procurement irregularities, poor welfare and other governance challenges under Managing Director Jane Egerton-Idehen.
Employees who spoke anonymously claimed that some workers have been forced to fund official local and international trips with personal loans because of delayed reimbursements.
They also alleged ou
tstanding financial obligations, promotion-related issues, victimisation and questionable management decisions.
NIGCOMSAT spokesperson Stephen Kwande acknowledged concerns about staff welfare but said management was working to resolve them, including efforts to review salaries
Questions have also been raised over the procurement of Nigeria’s new satellite programme. Industrial sources alleged that China’s Great Wall Industry Corporation performed strongly in technical and financial evaluations but was not selected.
Kwande, however, defended the process, saying Thales Alenia Space of France and Israel Aerospace Industries emerged as the most qualified contractors after going through due process.
